ISLAMABAD: Mother of Abdul Rehman, 11, a thalassaemia patient, has appealed to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to provide financial assistance for medical treatment of her son abroad.

e, she said that she had submitted an application to the CM seeking financial assistance, but despite
fulfilling all requirements, the application has resided with the Punjab Health Secretariat for the last six months.
“Two years ago, I took my son for treatment in Bangalore, India where doctors told me that quantity of iron was high in my son’s blood and he needs a bone-marrow transplant,” she added.
“Approximately Rs
8 million are required for treatment of my son which is unaffordable for us,” she added.
“A letter was written by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to the Punjab Specialised Health Secretariat, which directed the Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) to set up a special medical board for my son. On October 20, 2016, a three-member medical board of the RMC examined my son and told me that his treatment was possible only in India with the total estimated cost of some $68,000.

She has appealed to the CM for immediate release of funds for medical treatment of her son.
