ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday adjourned the hearing of a case regarding appointment of old age people as members of Federal Services Tribunal (FST) until December 13.
A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising of Justices Amir Hani Muslim, Ejaz Afzal Khan, Mushir Alam and Ijazul Ahsan, heard the case regarding the appointment of FST chairman.
During the proceedings, Attorney General (AG) Ashtar Ausaf Ali appeared before the court and informed that the Establishment Divi
sion was framing the rules for FST.
He said the age and qualification criteria for appointment
of the chairman and members of FST woul
d also be mentioned in the rules.
Justice Muslim remarked that the Civil Servants Act would be applicable until the formulation
of the rules
of the department concerned.
The AG said that there would be no harm if departments made their own rules.
Justice Jamali remarked, “We are a
nxious that departments should work as one department. Presently, appointments are made on personal will which is not a good practice.”
Ausaf said the government wanted to introduce re
forms in all departments facing problems.
The chief justice said that all four provincial governments implemented the order in Sheikh Riazuddin case but the federation failed to implement it.
Justice Muslim said that appointments in tribunals could not be made without the consultation
of the chief justice of Pakistan.
